Imagine a toddler fumbling, only to fall face down. He just wanted to get to his mother. The other kids snickered amusedly then slowly dispersed as the toddler’s mum picked him up to shush him. Everyone thought he was being cute, but it’s not funny to him. He does not understand why everything is so difficult.
Everything’s a blur, and nobody notices.
This toddler is just one of the millions of children with no access to a vision test that will diagnose their errors of refraction and provide them corrective lenses. He was built for Super League, he possessed a brilliant mind, but he’ll grow up sitting on the sides not wanting to play with other children or learn at school.
Just because he can’t see clearly.
Optometry Giving Sight‘s purpose is to improve the quality of life of people who are needlessly blind or vision impaired simply because they do not have access to an eye exam and vision care.
80% of what a child learns is processed through their visual system, so it’s critical that every child can see clearly. To learn at school, every child needs to be able to see their textbooks and lessons on the board or screen. To develop relationships with their peers, they need to be able to see faces and play safely. To take in the world around them—they use their eyes.
Eyecare Kids and Eyecare Plus‘ commitment to improve quality of life through quality vision extends beyond that of our own patients and beyond Australian shores. Our hearts are wrought to know there are people in other parts of the world who can’t be given even the most basic of all exams we give our patients every day.
Our practices believe that an organisation should not only care for our own growth and success; it is when we care for others that we are most fulfilled. Our vocation let us believe that good eyesight means good quality of life. We believe that everyone should get a comprehensive eye exam and should have access to an eye care professional and corrective modalities and live in areas with sustainable vision centres.
So we’ve adopted Optometry Giving Sight’s mission and made it our own.
