Amblyopia Management

Our caring optometrists are here to guide you through managing amblyopia with the latest treatments in a supportive environment.

How We Manage Amblyopia

Amblyopia is often treatable when identified early, and the treatment approach varies depending on the severity and underlying cause. Here’s how our optometrists manage amblyopia:

  • Comprehensive Eye Examination:
We begin with a thorough eye exam to understand the extent of the condition. Our optometrists will assess your child’s visual acuity, eye alignment, and how both eyes work together.
  • Prescription Glasses or Lenses:
If your child has a refractive error like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, we may prescribe glasses or contact lenses to help improve the clarity of vision in the affected eye.
  • Patching Therapy:
One of the most common treatments for amblyopia is patching the stronger eye for a set period each day. This encourages the brain to use the weaker eye, improving its vision over time. Our optometrists will guide you on the duration and frequency of patching based on your child’s needs.
  • Atropine Drops:
For some children, atropine eye drops may be prescribed to temporarily blur the vision in the stronger eye, similar to patching. This can be a helpful alternative if patching is challenging for your child to tolerate.
  • Vision Therapy:
In some cases, we may recommend vision therapy exercises to strengthen eye coordination and improve the relationship between both eyes. These exercises may include activities to improve eye focus, tracking, and depth perception.
  • Amblyoplay:
An engaging, interactive tool designed to support the treatment of amblyopia in children. By combining fun, game-based eye exercises, it helps enhance visual skills while keeping children motivated and entertained throughout their therapy.
  • Follow-Up Appointments:
Regular follow-ups are important to monitor your child’s progress. Our team will track your child’s vision improvement, adjust treatment plans if needed, and provide ongoing support to ensure the best possible outcome.
